UV Patch Guide
Full-Color Custom UV Patches, With Optional Raised Texture
UV printing is a strong choice when your artwork depends on full color, gradients, fine printed details or visual effects that traditional laser engraving cannot reproduce. Choose Regular UV for a smooth full-color printed finish, or Textured UV when you want selected areas of the design built up in raised layers for added dimension.
Regular UV vs. Textured UV Patches
Regular UV printing creates a smooth printed surface and is well suited to brand marks, illustrations, gradients and artwork that relies on multiple colors. It gives you the visual flexibility of full-color printing while keeping the patch surface relatively flat.
Textured UV printing uses additional layers of UV-cured ink on selected parts of the artwork. Those raised areas create visible and tactile dimension while retaining the color and detail of UV printing.
Artwork, Shape and Size
Start with the cleanest artwork available. Vector artwork is ideal when you have it, while crisp high-resolution raster artwork can also work well. Strong edges, readable text and clean separation between design elements help produce a better result.
Use the online builder to choose the available material, shape and size options for this product, then position your artwork within the production area and preview the design before ordering. Final color and texture can vary slightly from an on-screen preview because monitors and physical materials reproduce color differently.
Not Sure UV Printing Is the Right Patch Style?
If your design calls for a classic engraved look instead of full-color printing, compare our laser-engraved leatherette patches. For a rigid, high-contrast option, see our laser-engraved acrylic patches. You can also compare all available options in our Custom Hat Patches collection.
UV Printed Patch FAQs
What is a UV printed leatherette patch?
A UV printed leatherette patch combines a leatherette patch surface with UV-cured ink applied directly to the material. This allows full-color artwork, gradients and fine printed detail that would not be possible with traditional laser engraving alone.
What is the difference between Regular UV and Textured UV?
Regular UV creates a smooth full-color printed surface. Textured UV adds extra layers of UV-cured ink to selected parts of the artwork, creating raised areas that add visible and tactile dimension.
When should I choose UV printing instead of laser engraving?
Choose UV printing when your design depends on multiple colors, gradients, detailed printed graphics or dimensional textured effects. Choose laser engraving when you want a more traditional engraved appearance with contrast created by the material itself.
Can UV printed patches reproduce gradients and full color?
Yes. UV printing is designed for full-color graphics and can reproduce multi-color artwork and gradients, making it a strong option for designs that cannot be represented well as a single engraved contrast color.
Can I preview my UV patch before ordering?
Yes. The online builder provides an on-screen preview while you configure the available patch options and position your artwork. The preview is a visual guide, and final color or texture can vary slightly by material and screen display.
What artwork works best for UV printed patches?
Clean, high-resolution artwork works best. Vector artwork is ideal when available, and crisp raster artwork can also work well when edges, text and design details are clear and easy to distinguish.
Can I choose the patch shape and size?
Yes. This product builder includes available shape and size choices so you can select an option that fits the artwork and intended use. Designs with very small text or intricate edges may benefit from a simpler shape or larger size.
